Hargrave Martial Arts Kempo

Here at Hargrave Martial Arts we teach American Combat Kempo Karate. What we mean by combat is that it was designed for self defense and not for tournaments or sporting events. With this aspect the art takes on a seriousness that the sport karate does not take into account. The moves or techniques are for ending an altercation in the shortest amount of time possible.
The longer a fight goes on the higher the percentage of chance that you will get injured unnecessarily.

American Combat Kempo that is taught at Hargrave Martial Arts is the art of Professor Carter Hargrave tenth degree black belt. The system that he developed and wrote two training books on, Japanese Kempo Karate Manual, and Entrance to Secrets Japanese Kempo Karate Manual, has many revolutionary aspects when it comes to personal self defense.

One, there are very few Katas or forms. Carter Hargrave felt that these pre arranged fighting sequences while having some value did little to prepare the individual for real world self defense situations and were more for filling an empty martial art style that has little substance. American Combat Kempo has three Kata to black belt, and they are weapon Kata to help the user prepare for severe attacks with the minimum amount of stress and effort. The stress and effort referred to meaning simplicity in high intensity provocations.

The new system that Carter Hargrave made was in his reflection on what students had been asking for and had to where to go to get what they needed. There was no art that was designed to get you able to defend yourself and your family in a short amount of time. It was all geared for a calendar of two years or even four years then you can handle being attacked. Hargrave felt that sucked that all of these people who were being tormented and stalked had nowhere to turn. It was at that point that he began to take the best moves from many of the martial arts that he studied and heavily modify them, and reduce the moves to the minimum, then streamline the angles, and lastly make them energy efficient.

The final goal was to be able to take this martial art with you as long as you live no matter how old or handicapped you may become.

The result is American Combat Kempo Karate by Grandmaster Carter Hargrave.

These classes are taught by Professor Hargrave at his private martial arts academy in Tulsa Oklahoma.
